Are you a Coffeeholic?
As much as coffeeholic sounds nice, it may never be that nice really. Did you believe that? Maybe not!
Coffeeholic is a simple term to express a lover of coffee or as most dictionaries have it, it’s being a coffee addict. As much as we have workaholic and shopaholic to be friendlier than their opposite, so also is being coffeeholic. By being a coffeeholic, it means you have no other alternative to coffee.
As a coffeeholic, know your coffees
Espresso is not a brand but actually a strong black coffee in powder form brewed by forcing hot water under pressure through finely ground coffee beans. The resulting liquid is thicker and denser. It is not served like other common ones but measured in shots when served.
Instant coffee is the common coffee seen in most households. If it comes easy, then it is an instant coffee. Nothing is as an instant as an instant coffee.
Café latte is another coffee meaning coffee with milk. It originated from Italy and has been a mainstay in the country. Café latte is more of milk than coffee. About 66.666% of café latte is milk while 33.333% is an espresso coffee.
Café mocha bears a little resemblance to café latte just that instead of adding milk, powdered or syrup chocolate is added. Café latte has a thick layer of foamed milk but
Cappuccino, another coffee has a thinner layer of foamed milk.
So how do you know if you are a coffeeholic?
From a survey by (Zagat readers) [https://www.zagat.com/b/2014-peoples-coffee-survey-results-revealed], the average American drinks an average of 2-3 cups of coffee. Anything higher than this may be equal to been a coffeeholic, at least for an American.
It is a known fact that most people like students, workers who work around the clock and those who choose to defy sleep at a particular time indulge in drinking coffee. This sounds alcoholic. Does it? :)
If you started out taking coffee a cup a day, you are about been knighted into the brotherhood of coffeeholics. Nothing to fear about though unless you know there is everything to fear.
But as they say, too much of everything isn’t good. Is there anything bad with being a coffeeholic?
A single cup of coffee is about 12, 16, or 20 ounces. By nutritionist and health practitioners, having 8-ounce cup of coffee 4 times a day is safe and healthy. An 8-ounce of coffee has about 95 milligrams of caffeine. The highest coffee intake you can have is 380mg.
Being a coffee lover isn’t bad but what is, is the caffeine inside. Caffeine is an alkaloid in coffee responsible for its stimulating effect. A coffee naturally doesn’t prevent you from sleeping, the caffeine inside does. But what point do you get to and know your intake isn’t safe again. Caffeine overdose is around 500mg of coffee. The side effects attached to caffeine overdose include restlessness, irritation, insomnia and sometimes, stomach upset.
Since mathematically, 4 cups of coffee a day is equal to 380mg of caffeine. This is 120mg short of the overdose. It is safe to go with 4 cups or less. Enjoy been a coffeeholic!
