The big question always lie on which is the  more tasteful coffee; this answer should be such that centres on the quality of the coffee and means of preparation. So, let’s get to know of this espresso drink.

What is Espresso? 

Espresso is a type of coffee that is made using some special methods to cause the tamping of coffee down with the presence of pressurised hot water.

How did the Espresso come about? 

The Espresso  drink became a known when the espresso machine was developed. The origin of the espresso making machine can be traced back to Angelo Moriondo, from Turin Turin. He patented a steam-driven “instantaneous” coffee beverage making device in 1884 (No. 33/256). Angelo device is “almost certainly the first Italian bar machine that controlled the supply of steam and water separately through the coffee” and Moriondo is “certainly one of the earliest discoverers of the expresso machine. The machine brewed the espresso drink in bulk and could be used for a commercial setting. 

How is it made? 

Espresso is made by forcing very hot water under high pressure through finely ground compacted coffee. When the coffee is being tamp down it produces a syrupy beverage.

How is it served? 

Espresso can be served alone but in addition to this, espresso is frequently blended, notably with milk, it can be either steamed (without significant foam), wet foamed (“microfoam”), or dry foamed, and with hot water. Notable milk-based espresso drinks, in order of size, include: macchiato, cappuccino, flat white,  cortado and gala; and latte which are made primarily with steamed milk with little or no foam.

How to prepare Espresso? 

The various methods of preparation of espresso differs completely between drinks and baristas. For macchiatos, cappuccino, flat white, and smaller lattes and Americanos, the espresso is brewed into the cup, then the milk or water is poured in. For larger drinks, where a tall glass will not fit under the brew head, the espresso is brewed into a small cup, then poured into the larger cup; for this purpose a demitasse or specialized espresso brew pitcher may be used. 

What Is the nutritional value of the espresso drink? 

Most valued espresso drink has lots of nutritional benefits. It gives energy of about 8.4kilo joules and hence a good source of carbohydrate; it also has small traces of fat, protein, vitamins and minerals. Other constituents of the drink are Riboflavin, magnesium, theobromine, water, caffeine and niacin.The volume of caffeine is large per volume of the espresso drink but due the quantity at which it is being served. It contains small volume of caffeine compared to the regular coffee. 

Care to Know the Big Difference Between Coffee and Espresso? 

When it comes down to this, the preparation of espresso is what really sets it apart. Other methods of brewing take time, because they rely on the slow filtering of hot water through your grounds. This means several minutes between you and a fresh cup of coffee.

Espresso machines  pressurize and shoot near-boiling water through finely ground coffee beans packed into cakes. This method gives a complex, aromatic, and caffeine-packed shot of coffee in under thirty seconds.

What are the Espresso-Based drinks? 

There are different types of espresso drinks, they include:

  • Cappuccino - this drink comprises two ounces of espresso topped with another two ounces of steamed milk and finished with two ounces of foamed milk.

  • Dry Cappuccino - which is the dry version and it leaves the steamed milk at the end.

  • Americano - this one consists of two ounces of espresso mixed with hot water.
  • Latte - a combination of espresso and steamed milk.

  • Affogato - a mixture of espresso and vanilla ice cream.

In Conclusion, Espresso isn’t a different coffee bean, although roasters may have a special process for beans destined to become espresso. Espresso is a drink produced using high pressure steam tamped down on the coffee. Espresso is easier to produce with its machine and it’s a good nutritional drink with less caffeine volume as served in a mug. This is one of  the awesome coffee you would like to spend some extra cash on.
